4. Pronounce your name and gotra, then say, “Srutismritipuranokta karisheya devarshimanushyapittarpanam for attainment of fruit”.

Keep the forearm of Kusha towards the east, offer tarpan from Devtirtha i.e. with the tip of the fingers of the right hand, in the same way offer tarpan to the sages.

6. Now facing north, wearing the thread (like a garland) and wearing a palanquin, offer tarpan to the divine man by pouring water from the middle of both the palms. Water is offered to the deity with the fingers and the ancestors with the thumb.

7. After this, sitting facing the south, put the thread on the right shoulder and take it under the left hand, leave black sesame in the plate, then take black sesame in hand and invoke your ancestors- Pitra imam grhantu jalanjalim in Agachhantu. Then offer tarpan from Pitru Teerth i.e. from the middle part of thumb and forefinger.

8. While performing the tarpan, say with the name of your gotra, gotre asmatpitamaha (father’s name) vasurupat tripyatamidam tilodakam ganga jalam va tasmai swadha namah, tasmai swadha namah, tasmai swadha namah. Give water to the grandfather and great-grandfather thrice with this mantra. Similarly, give water after taking the names of three generations. After reciting this mantra, give Jalanjali 16 times in east direction, 7 times in north direction and 14 times in south direction.
