L’OCCITANE Group seeks to become a cultivator of change by helping female Shea Butter producers in Burkina Faso through female entrepreneurship and regenerative farming methods

Shea Butter is produced from the fatty kernel nut of the Shea tree, which is native to East and West Africa. The Shea Butter used in L’OCCITANE en Provence products is sourced from trees in natural parklands free from chemicals, fertilisers and pesticides, promoting biodiversity.

Since the 1980s, L’OCCITANE en Provence has supported female Shea producers in Burkina Faso by purchasing raw materials directly from female cooperatives.

The L’OCCITANE Foundation provides female Shea Butter producers with education, training and opens the opportunity for female entrepreneurship. Through the years, the foundation has provided regular financial and social support to these cooperatives, with 42,000 women benefitting from the scheme.

By buying directly from female producers and assisting them in applying for Fair Trade Certification, L’OCCITANE en Provence helps promote traditional organic and regenerative farming methods.

L’OCCITANE Group continues to support the travel retail sector in its efforts towards sustainability by adopting a proactive, environmentally-friendly approach to products, packaging and reducing its carbon footprint, furthering its mission to create a nature-positive world.
