Ella Butcher, founder of Peaches and Cream Foundation, recently held a giveaway program with prizes and a bouncy house for students returning to school in Jefferson County.

Louisville Mayor Jenny Smith came to Butcher with an idea to offer something for local students to help with needed school supplies. The women, along with SHIPS for Youth Director Chester Johnson put together the school supplies giveaway event.

"The mayor played a great part," Butcher said. "She really wants to do things for the community and the youth."

One vendor, Bryce Bennett owner of Bennett Alignment, brought 16 cases of bottled water to hand out to anyone who asked. In fact, Bennett offered a bottle of cold water to everyone who passed by him.

Also attending the event was Judy Jones who works with The Sunshine House. Based in Swainsboro, the organization is a child advocacy center and offers a variety of services, including parent/child enrichment activities, parenting education and therapeutic counseling. For more information about this, contact the Jefferson County office at 912-297-6804.

"We're here (in Jefferson County) at least two days a week," Jones said, adding appointments may be made by calling the office number.

Cathy Davis, owner of Davis Funeral Home, provided several bicycles and eight tablets in drawings.

Cameron Walker with Peach State Health Plan from Savannah was giving away book bags, calculators, pens and other school supplies.

Patricia Edwards with the Ferst Foundation was on hand to talk about the organization, which provides free age-appropriate books to children enrolled in the program.

Another vendor was from Augusta. Mary Pinkinston with Keller Williams Real Estate provided gift cards worth $50 and $25.

Butcher said Queensborough Bank was a great sponsor.

"It was very successful," she said of the event. "All the partners came together."
