Celebrating a legend with legendary scent

Issey Miyake has left an indelible mark on the fashion and beauty industries.  The Japanese-born designer heralded a functionality in fashion with his iconic ‘Pleats Please’ collection, which defied creasing and traditional silhouettes.  In 1992, Miyake released his first women’s fragrance – L'Eau D'Issey. An emulation of the fluid form of water as a wearable material, this scent later inspired a men’s fragrance of the same name. Miyake leaves behind a legacy as a vanguard of fashion and over 100 fragrances – here are a handful of our favourites from the maverick…

The scent that started it all. A fragrance intended to be “as clear as spring water”, it features floral aquatic notes of lotus, rose water, lily, water peony, woods, and amber.

A slightly woodier take on its feminine counterpart, L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme combines top notes of citrus and herbs with a spicy heart, and smoky wooden base.

Sweet and floral, this spring-inspired scent is a playful departure from Miyake’s fresher fragrances. Warming vanilla, musk and cedar are surrounded by a veritable bouquet of jasmine, rose, lilac and orange blossom blooms.

Intended to service the scentual needs of the modern man, Fusion D’Issey sparks imagination and questions masculinity. Sweet in parts, with notes of coconut milk, fig nectar and patchouli at the fore, this olfactory is underpinned by a grounding earthy, herbaceous aroma that’s as addictive as it is comforting.

A celebration of the metamorphosis present in nature, Pure Nectar delivers a sweetly unctuous aroma with a top note of pear and honeyed rose, while terrestrial cashmeran, ambergris, sandalwood, white musk and violet ground the scent.

A lumbering and intense journey into solid scents of cedar, sandalwood, and vetiver. This men’s fragrance is wrapped in the aromatic smoke of patchouli and cardamom and sweetened with apricot and grapefruit.

Rose is the number one scent used in fragrance, and as the name might suggest, Rose & Rose is an ode to the popular ingredient. Bulgarian rose and rose extract sit alongside raspberry and pear, while cashmere, amber, wood and patchouli instill a mature element to the perfume.
